We Heart Sharlane!

I would love to see you at this fabulous event! Please come share your love of Sharlane with the wedding community and our friends!

WE HEART SHARLANE

What: A Fundraising Auction
Where: Herban Feast @ Sodo Park | 3200 1st Avenue South, Seattle, WA. 98134
When: Thursday Feb 4th 2010 | 7-10pm
Who: EVERYONE! Please forward this email on to family, friends, brides to be or anyone that you think would be interested in supporting this amazing cause!

Sharlane is a mother, a photographer, and our friend. This year began like a fairy tale, complete with a magical proposal from the man she loves. Like too many fairy tales, this one turned dark as Sharlane was diagnosed with cancer even before the wedding planning could begin. The diagnosis itself is scary enough, but so are the crushing costs associated. This is our attempt to help our friend, who has helped so many others herself.

The benefit we are throwing is all about love, life, laughter and art. We are so excited about the donated items, and know that even if you don’t know Sharlane you can find something amazing to spend your money on for a Valentine’s Day gift. In addition to buying something über cool and impressing your friends, you will also receive that warm fuzzy feeling from helping an amazing person.

You can help Sharlane in four (4) easy ways:
·       Donate money (it’s PayPal — too easy!): http://weheartsharlane.showitsite.com/#/help/
·       Donate an item (great way to gain exposure and showcase your work for an amazing cause): helpsharlane@gmail.com
·       Bid on a silent auction item on Feb 4th (check out the list of amazing goods): http://weheartsharlane.showitsite.com/#/what-to-expect/
·       Spread the word! Please pass this invitation along on Facebook, Twitter and email!

Thanks for the support! Any questions, call Ashley 206-353-2992 or email at helpsharlane@gmail.com

New Senior Portraits!

Here are a few senior portraits I shot this past fall.

GSBA Humanitarian Award Recipients!

Last month I was asked to do all the portraits for The Greater Seattle Business Association Humanitarian Award recipients.  Here are the results! Congratulations to everyone who won!

Proud of my mom!

My mom is an amazing quilter. She is so talented but oh so modest. My mom and dad design and make the most gorgeous quilts. I was thrilled to get an e-mail from her that she was mentioned on Superior Thread’s blog for her most recent quilt. I thought I would brag a little since it isn’t often you get to brag about your parents. To see her most recent quilt, please visit this link for Superior threads. Enjoy!

Mary Margaret and Seth get married at Greenbank Farms on Whidbey Island

Mary Margaret and Seth met through a mutual friend at their BBQ. Eventually they decided to get engaged on their sofa over breakfast on a Sunday morning. Their chihuahua and border collie were their witnesses. They chose Whidbey Island for their wedding after spending a lot of time together at Mary Margaret’s weekend house in Greenbank. They spend 2-3 weekends a month there talking, cooking and taking the dogs to the beach. When they were planning the wedding it was the obvious choice. They booked the Greenbank Farm within 3 days of being engaged. It is about a mile from their weekend getaway. The weather was a bit rainy but they were troopers! We did a lot of their portraits outside despite the pouring rain and the ceremony was moved indoors. It was a beautiful wedding and friends and family came from all over the country.

Toby and Chris get married at Suncadia!

Suncadia was chosen by Toby and Chris because of the beautiful location and the family friendly atmosphere.  They have spent a lot of time there, with and without kids, and love being there.  They merged their families together and have 6 children between them. The wedding was beautiful and low key. Gorgeously understated and full of meaning for their special day.

Elk Landing was the house they decided on as their venue, and the Lodge at Suncadia, allowed a place for family and friends to stay and celebrate. They all stayed for a few days and spent time  river rafting, swimming, golfing, biking, and relaxing.

Toby wrote, “The theme for the wedding was “joy, love and a little chaos”.  What do you expect with 6 kids? 🙂  The wedding went off without a hitch.  Friends and family came from Oregon, California, Idaho, and as far away as Vietnam.  We hired a barbeque caterer and the food was delicious!”

Here are the vendors they used:

Arlen and Benjie Get Married!

5copy

Arlen wore Benjie's Mothers Dress to the wedding

I met Benjie and his family about 15 years ago when I photographed his Bar Mitzvah. I was thrilled to be asked to photograph his wedding!

Arlen grew up on a farm in rural Nicaragua.  Benjie, after graduation from University, volunteered with an organization called Pro Nica which provided support to the farmer’s coop in Achuapa.  His first stop was a nearby town for some language training.  There he met an American woman who had been volunteering in Achuapa.  She played match maker and told Arlen she really needed to meet this guy. It took one week in Achuapa for Arlen and Benjie to start a romance.   After a year they decided they were committed to each other.  Arlen told Benjie he needed to ask her father for permission to marry her, as was the custom in Nicaragua.  Arlen’s dad was the last to know but everyone colluded to make him think he was the first.  He told Benjie Arlen was an adult and he needed to ask her.  Benjie soon became welcomed into the family and was loved by all.

Benjie returned to Seattle alone and began preparations for Arlen to join him.  After a lengthy visa process and help from Senator Patty Murray’s office, Arlen arrived in May of 2008.  Within a week we held a civil ceremony in the back yard so her application for permanent residence could be filed.  One year later, in July of 2009 they held a Jewish wedding and celebration with friends and family. Rabbi Daniel Septimus from Temple De Hirsch Sinai performed the wedding ceremony.

The Vendors that helped this wonderful wedding were:

Mt Baker Community Center

Madeleine’s European Cakes
